Stuck in Estrogen’s Funhouse
Martina “Marti” MacCale is happily married to school-teacher-to-be Spencer. Spencer and Marti live in a one-bedroom apartment and live on a backwards schedule thanks to Marti’s job as a bartender at Flash Point, a local night club. Marti usually works night hours, and sleeps until late in the afternoon. Lately, however, Marti has been spending the majority of her time sleeping, waking up as late as 8:30 in the evening after long nights at the bar.
Along with the exhaustion, Marti has intense cravings for lasagna, is unable to even imagine eating anything else, snaps at Spencer and her friends for no reason, and can’t seem to spend more than an hour out of the restroom. Since Spencer and Marti couldn’t afford to keep paying the expensive cost of contraception, it’s been two months since Marti’s last Depo Provera shot and she begins to worry that she may be pregnant.
Still, even with all the symptoms continuing, Marti tests negative and runs into another complication that drives thoughts of pregnancy out of her head. The complication’s name is Erik Stanford, a young upper-grad student who pops in at the bar one night, and the next thing Marti knows she’s training Erik to be a bartender at Flash Point as well. Hours spent together when the club isn’t open, as well as hours spent in the flirtacious atmosphere that is found in anyplace with both alcohol and music, start to have their effect on Marti as she finds herself thinking about Erik a lot more than she should… and definitely at times when she shouldn’t.
Still, Marti is carful to keep her thoughts just that-thoughts, and not actions. But what happens when Erik and Spencer show up at the same party? What if Spencer finds out that Marti’s mind has been wandering? Can Marti save her relationship with Spencer, and get her body under control as well?
